It is wonderful to have people in your life who truly understand what you are going through because they too are living through it. Now don’t get me wrong, I have wonderful friends outside of the medical world who are supportive and of course my family too who is always there for me, but it isn’t quite the same. This past weekend I had brunch with some local doctor’s wives and despite our varying ages, backgrounds and careers we all have one large thing in common: we have hitched our wagon to a doctor.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, Lives of Doctor Wives, I joined a Facebook group made up of other physician spouses around the country. Through that group I was connected with the President- elect of the AMA Alliance, the largest organization representing the family of medicine in the United States, who happens have just moved back to the Baltimore/DC area. There are AMA Alliance groups and individual hospital spouse groups all over the country, but there hadn’t been one started in Baltimore that was inclusive to any physician spouse from any hospital or practice in the area. Since I am always happy to meet new people and bring people together, I offered to help build a Baltimore network of physician spouses/partners. The group is called Charm City Physician Families, and is open to all physician spouses/partners, from medical school all the way to retirement and beyond no matter what hospital you are affiliated with or if you’re in private practice as long as you are in the Baltimore area.
I look forward to helping grow and establish this group and hopefully making some lifetime friends in the process.
